This is a serious viral infection transmitted by ticks, and it's commonly found in Latvia, including urban areas.
Vaccination is the only truly effective way to protect yourself. You can get vaccinated throughout the year, but the best time is before ticks become active, so your immune system has time to build up protection.
Ticks become active at just +3°C, and the season typically lasts from early April to the end of October. In favorable weather conditions, it may start earlier and last longer.
