Timpanometry
Timpanometry is a method by which the middle ear is examined. With this method, pressure in the drum cavity, tympanic membranes and mobility of hearing bones are determined. Timpanometry helps to diagnose various diseases in cases when nothing is diagnosed by the classic ENT tools. Tympanitis, osteosclerosis, liquid and adhesions in the eardrum may be mentioned as examples.
A timpanometer is a small device. It has a screen on which a curve appears during the examination, representing how the tympanic membrane responds to the pressure influence. The procedure is painless. It is made in the external ear canal by gently placing a tube through which a measurement is made. The examination may be performed for both children and adults.
